International Epilepsy Day 2025: raising awareness through video games

Journée Internationale de l'épilepsie

Every year, on the second Monday in February, International Epilepsy Day gives us the opportunity to reflect on this condition that affects millions of people around the world.

Epilepsy in figures

According to epilepsie France, epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by excessive discharges of cerebral neurons, with a variety of causes and resulting in intermittent manifestations (seizures) with multiple clinical aspects.

It ranks third among the most common neurological diseases, just after migraine and dementia, with 50 million people worldwide suffering from epilepsy. In Europe, epilepsy is the main disabling neurological pathology, generating a global cost equivalent to 0.2% of GDP.

In France, around 700,000 people suffer from epilepsy. Of these, 100,000 are children, whose access to education is complicated, and 100,000 are elderly, whose dependence is accentuated.

International Epilepsy Day 2025: raising awareness of the disease

February 10, 2025 was International Epilepsy Day, with a focus on communication around this chronic neurological disease. Through awareness campaigns, organizations communicate about epilepsy, share knowledge and combat preconceived ideas that hinder the daily lives of people with epilepsy. It’s a day to help us move forward together towards a better life.

Through MyEpilepsieJourney, for example, people all over the world share their experiences and their days with epilepsy.

Understanding epilepsy through video games

With Épilepsie France, Gamabilis has developed Tricky Life in 2021. This mobile game raises awareness of domestic accidents that can happen to people with epilepsy. Thanks to an interactive mechanism and a flashback effect, it takes a humorous approach to epilepsy, making it easier for children and adults alike to understand.

The game also includes information sheets on the disease, first aid and preventive measures for everyday life.
