The fun of playing is at the core of what makes games in general, and video games in particular, so engaging. Video game experiences are driven by many different areas of creativity : the world and narrative, the gameplay and game mechanics, the multiplayer, virtual or augmented reality aspect, AI (artificial intelligence), etc. These areas are constantly evolving. Like other forms of pop culture, they are moving beyond the realm of entertainment to become a genuine channel for communication..

We researched these mechanics to find out how they influenced videogame experiences. Gamabilis has created a unique approach to measuring their impact on real-life behaviour in order to demonstrate their potential usefulness from a societal point of view and continually improve our design method. This work was conducted as part of a doctoral thesis.
