This transition, essential to preserving our resources and meeting climate challenges, concerns all players in society, from farmers to consumers. But how can we anticipate and support this change effectively and collectively?

Communicating agro-ecological knowledge through a video game

At Gamabilis, we firmly believe that change requires raising awareness among both the general public and those involved in agriculture. With this in mind, we developed Roots of Tomorrow: inventing tomorrow’s agriculture.

This strategy video game, which is accessible to all (you can read its game review here), has two distinct levels: the first, designed for the general public, offers an accessible and simplified approach, while the second, more educational and technical, is aimed specifically at professionals in the agricultural sector.

Video games, a rich and captivating medium

Many teachers are already incorporating games into their teaching practices (board games, role-playing, etc.) to make lessons more interactive, encourage learning, learn from mistakes and put themselves in the shoes of a character. This approach helps them better grasp the challenges they may encounter and the decisions they need to make. The aim is also to strengthen interaction between students while offering an engaging and stimulating learning method.

What else will Roots of Tomorrow bring? A strategy game that challenges players to make realistic, scientific decisions, centered on the management of a French farm. It offers practical situations rarely encountered in other games. Key concepts such as autonomy, adaptation to change, optimization, resilience and efficiency can be explored.

Replay video of the March 29 webinar hosted by Philippe Prévost and featuring Vincent Péquignot (Gamabilis) and Philippe Jeanneaux (Vetagro Sup)

Video games as an aid to agricultural education

The version dedicated to education is aimed primarily at establishments offering training in agriculture and agronomy, such as high schools, higher education establishments and continuing education.

It takes the form of a website enabling the organizer to create a game adapted to the course format, with options such as choice of scenario, management of difficulty and duration of turns, etc. The game can be analyzed in real time and afterwards. Statistics generated by the students’ games can be analyzed in real time and after the game.

Throughout the experience, the organizer has the opportunity to discuss with the students, in particular to review the strategic choices made during the game.

It is also possible toextract the statistical data and present them to the students, using them as a basis for discussion.

An impact study on Roots of Tomorrow in education

Following the release of the game and its deployment, we plan to carry out an impact analysis study as part of an anthropology thesis we are funding. Our PhD student Hélène Birlouez will be carrying out an impact study to analyze how the educational game has been integrated into teaching and how it can raise more awareness than a traditional course.

Do you have any questions about the game, or would you like to integrate it into an educational project? Contact us, we’d be delighted to help!

Source

A sovereign agro-ecological model by 2050 is possible, according to a CNRS study

Tomorrow, history will be taught with video games

[170,166,123,122,36
post-3770","actualites","type-actualites","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-enseignement-en","tag-education-en","tag-environment","tag-agroecology","tag-awareness","jeux-roots-of-tomorrow-en","categories-blog-en
["GET
